This last treatment phase (or Phase II) usually begins a number of months and in some cases years after Phase I treatment, because we are waiting for 12-16 more permanent teeth to erupt.
With Phase II treatment, fixed braces are used for typically 18 to 30 months and are usually much simpler and less costly if early (Phase I) treatment was indicated and carried out.
In most cases, adding the fees of both phases together is comparable to the fee of comprehensive treatment.
The goal of Phase II treatment is to achieve an ideal occlusion with all of the permanent teeth.
Comprehensive orthodontic treatment is the most common type of treatment that patients receive and completely corrects bite problems from start-to-finish in one stage.
It is appropriate for young adults and children who have lost all or almost all of their baby teeth.
In general, it involves use of braces on upper and/or lower teeth to shift or correct bite problems.
In general, orthodontic treatment ranges from less than a year to three years, but the average is typically 2 to 2 1/2 years in length.
So you didn't get braces as a kid, or maybe you did, but you stopped wearing your retainers.
Orthodontics can still help you achieve a great smile.
You are never too old for braces.
Nearly one million adults are wearing braces today, and about 25% of all orthodontic patients are adults.
The biological process involved in tooth movement is the same in adults and children.
And regardless of your age, successful orthodontic treatment can make a dramatic change in your smile and in your life.
Bad bites can be detrimental to a patient's dental health by possibly causing premature wear on the teeth, difficulty in oral hygiene and/or loss of the gums and bones supporting the teeth.
If the thought of wearing braces is all that is stopping you from getting the smile you've always wanted, we have some very good news for you.
Invisalign(R) is a breakthrough in orthodontics that uses clear, virtually undetectable tooth aligners to gradually move your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
This means you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing, and you can still eat and drink what you want.
Also, you can brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth.
With no metal wires or brackets, no mouth abrasions will occur.
