Dr. Gerry Ahrens grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and graduated from Louisville Male High School where he succeeded in academics and lettered in three athletic programs. He was the school's starting quarterback, and his football team won the state tournament during his Senior Year when he was named an All-American by USA Today. We have completed two rounds of braces at Ahrens, one for me as an adult and one for my daughter.
Both experiences were exemplary! Drs. Doug and Gerry Ahrens as well as the rest of the staff are very personable and are very good at what they do. It is also nice to know that you will be seen on time and that the appointment will be completed in an efficient manner. Dr. Gerry and the entire staff are very pleasant to deal with. It's VERY obvious that they care for their patients and love what they do.
I'm 36 and always had a straight smile, but I'm doing braces for TMJ problems and the results so far have been excellent. I recently finished my ortho treatment at Ahrens Orthodontics.

For comprehensive orthodontic treatment, most commonly, metal wires are inserted into orthodontic brackets (see dental braces), which can be made from stainless steel or a more aesthetic ceramic material.
The wires interact with the brackets to move teeth into the desired positions.
Other methods may include invisalign.
Invisalign consists of clear plastic aligners that 'level and align', but require more patient compliance than traditional braces.
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before.

Don't worry, you'll be eating popcorn and snacking on potato chips again in no time!
However, before you can start enjoying some of the treats you love, you will need to take special care to avoid any foods that could damage your new appliances.
When you first get your braces, you may notice that your teeth and mouth feel a little tender or sore.
This is perfectly normal for patients, and we promise your mouth will not be sore forever!
To relieve the pain, we recommend dissolving one teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of lukewarm water.
