Crawford Orthodontics SC
The treatment coordinator and doctor examine the patient's teeth and bite, take measurements and count the teeth. They address the patient's chief concern or reason that the dentist referred. A tentative treatment plan is presented. If a patient is getting clear aligner treatment, the aligners are delivered at this appointment. If braces have been recommended, the brackets are bonded to the teeth along with patient education, cleaning instructions, etc.

Whether in aligners or braces, we see patients about every 6 weeks for appointments. We either deliver new aligners, bond engagers and check the progress of tooth movement, or adjust the braces and make bends to the wires (new colors too!). The patient sees the doctor at every visit. This is an exciting day for most (some are sad to be done with treatment).

When the braces are removed, the assistant and doctor work together to debond brackets and remove residual glue. Adults are seeking orthodontic treatment now more than ever before. The benefits include, but are not limited to: increased cleansibility of the teeth, better tooth stability in the bone, spacing preparation for dental implants, crowns or veneers, improved speech, eating and obviously straight teeth!
Services
We understand that your days are busy with work and/or school, however, not all appointments can be done after school or in the evenings.
We all have families that we enjoy spending time with at home and scheduling everyone after school hours would be impractical.
Our longer appointments are scheduled mid-morning or early afternoon to accommodate our shorter adjustment and appliance check appointments before and after school or work.
We do offer appointments two Saturdays per month in an effort to accommodate everyone.
Please be on time for all appointments.
If unable to make your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible, so we can accommodate other patients who may need to see us.
Payments are due in the manner agreed upon in your financial agreement.
If for some reason you are not able to meet your monthly obligation, please contact us so we can make arrangements before your account becomes delinquent.
Please be courteous to the staff and others who may be in the waiting room with you.
We maintain a pleasant, family-friendly environment and like to make our time together as enjoyable as possible.
If your teeth become sore after a visit, we generally recommend that you take an analgesic such as acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) or ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Motrin).
This, of course, is the protocol only if there are no known allergies to these medications.
Rinsing with Peroxyl or a cup of warm water and teaspoon of salt can also be soothing.
Chewing on your therabite (occlusal waffer) helps, as well as chewing on soft sugarless gum.
If food becomes stuck between your teeth, use dental floss or a proxy brush to dislodge the food.
The "wooden nickel" program is a motivational reward system used to encourage patient cooperation and better oral hygiene.
The success of orthodontic treatment relies greatly on the cooperation of the patient.
Good oral hygiene prevents decalcification (white marks on the teeth), puffy gums and bad breath.
Good oral hygiene means no redness or inflammation of the gums and no excessive plaque on the teeth.
Hygiene will be graded at the beginning of the appointment by one of Dr. Crawford's assistants.
No, it is not.
Most of our patients are referred by their family dentist, however many patients are concerned about the look and function of their teeth and take the initiative to schedule themselves for an examination to have their need for orthodontic care evaluated.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic screening at age seven.
By this age, the six-year molars and several permanent teeth in most children have erupted allowing the doctors to effectively evaluate most developing orthodontic problems.
